Three things you may have missed at the World Matchplay quarter-finals:
Littler breaking records… again:
The 18-year-old seems to break records without even throwing a dart these days, but Friday night saw Luke Littler annihilate the record for highest number of 180s in a World Matchplay quarter-final.
Despite the potential scare from Andrew Gilding after a spirited late comeback, the teenager hit a staggering 18 maximums to secure his spot in the semi-final.
In this, Littler will face his good friend Josh Rock, who hit a 104 average in his 16-11 victory over world number six Gerwyn Price.
Return of the Coldplay Cam:
As seen on previous nights, albeit only to the audience, a love heart-shaped camera follows people in the crowd to capture those special moments (not the moments with your co-workers, however.)
It all appeared quite innocent on Friday night though, no hiding from the cameras, no awkward laughs while holding someone you’re not supposed to, just people having fun at the darts.
All of the (interesting) costumes:
As always, people love to dress up for the darts, and there was no change for the second quarter-final.
There were the usual fruits (banana costumes are a personal favourite of mine) and traffic cones, as well as lots of people wearing the shirts, and wigs, of their favourite players.
The friendly, welcoming atmosphere of supporters at the darts makes it a truly special sport and it is a unique experience that differs from night to night.
