Darts isn’t just a sport, it’s one of the biggest fancy dress parties going across the globe, fans around the world attend darts events dressed up as bananas, Teletubbies, and even pints of beer.
But it’s not just the fans who turn up to the shows like they’re at a festivals, the players themselves have made efforts to match the fans, by making their entrances in all forms of silly and crazy outfits. This list won’t just cover their outrageous fits, but will also highlight darts players fashion sense overall, off and on the oche.
5. ‘The Muffin Man’ Steve Hine
He enters this list purely for his infamous walk-on costume in the 2011 World Championship, Hine donned a baker’s uniform when entering to Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Bonkers’, throwing muffins into the crowd. What moulds the pieces together is the fact that Hine did and still works as a baker himself. Hine lost his tour card in 2020, but has been attending Q-School in hopes of returning to the PDC
4. Michael Van Gerwen
Potentially the most iconic darts shirt of all time, the neon green machine wears the shirt synonymous with the sport. For many years players knew they were doomed once the luminescent kit had it’s back facing them. While many spectators have only seen him in the outfit. MVG’s fashion sense outside of the big stage is of top quality. And when he debuted a black and gold shirt to celebrate the release of his new EvoX darts, it suited him even better than the legendary shirt he’s known for.
3. Gerwyn Price
The former World Champion and rugby player Gerwyn Price has had his fair share of great darts shirts. Nowadays his shirt represents his nickname ‘The Iceman’ with his regular black primary colour joined with a icy white and blue flair. He also has worn a fully blue and white kit, he wore this in his iconic 2018 Grand Slam of Darts victory over Gary Anderson.
Not only are his normal shirts a hit, he gets a custom shirt for most abroad events, including an orange shirt when in the Netherlands, a red and white shirt in Bahrain, and a pure red shirt when in his home country Wales. He suits all of his shirts incredibly well.
2. Wayne Mardle
Appropriately nicknamed Hawaii 501, the former World Championship finalist and now top pundit entered with a shirt as crazy as his entrances in themselves. The Hawaiian look was a way of reminding every spectator the phenomenal character Wayne Mardle is, while he hones in, maintaining a serious and cool composure when in matches. Now in his new role as pundit, he discusses with his colleagues about the matches in a fashion that doesn’t entirely resemble the on stage persona, but is certainly more professional and fitting of his new position
1. Peter Wright
You cannot speak about darts fashion and not talk about ‘Snakebite’. The two-time World Champion’s entrances, especially in Christmas time are always looked forward to by the fans. He has portrayed the ‘Grinch’ twice, entered as a ‘Purple Santa’, and comes wearing patterns that made him seem like he was wearing a Christmas jumper. The fashion doesn’t end at just the clothes, as Wright has had his iconic mohawk done in a multitude of colours. The hair is done by his wife Joanna, who also is a hairdresser. The mohawk has since became a staple within not only the career of the Scotsman, but a staple within darts as a whole.
