Phil Taylor wants to buy football club with pop icon Robbie Williams

Move over Wrexham—Port Vale could be next in line for a celebrity takeover, and it’s a Stoke-on-Trent special.

Darts icon Phil Taylor, a 16-time world champion and one of the sport’s all-time greats, has revealed he’d be open to joining forces with his longtime mate and global pop star Robbie Williams to buy League Two side Port Vale.

From oche to the terraces

Taylor, 64, is a diehard Valiant, having grown up in the local area and supported the club his entire life. And if anyone could match his love for Vale, it’s Robbie—Port Vale’s honorary club president and perhaps their most famous fan.

Speaking to OLBG, Taylor teased the possibility of a joint investment with the former Take That star.

“Well, I was asked that by talkSPORT because me and Robbie are good friends,” he said.

“And his dad is like my second dad—Peter is—and talkSPORT mentioned that Robbie was interested in investing into Port Vale and, if he does, would you be interested?

“I said, well yeah, I think so, but we’d have to see what it is and how much they want and stuff like that.”

Joining football’s celebrity club?

Should Taylor and Williams decide to make their move, they’d be joining an ever-growing list of famous names dabbling in the football world.

From Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Hollywood fairytale at Wrexham, to Tom Brady’s stake in Birmingham City, and Michael B. Jordan’s backing of Bournemouth, football is having a full-blown celebrity moment.

Could Port Vale be next in line for a stardust sprinkle? With Taylor’s competitive drive and Robbie’s star power, don’t bet against it.
